Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot coach Brad Bonds has been selected as the Region 4 Coach of the Year by the coaches in the region. Coach Bonds has guided the Lady Patriots to a 27-3 record heading into the Region 4 basketball tournament next week.
AC-S started the season 10-0 before losing to top-ten teams Anderson County and Simon Kenton on December 23 in the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. The Lady Patriots regrouped to win the South Central Bank-Halton Classic the following week—which included a win over Simon Kenton in the championship.
After the pair of losses in Lexington, the Lady Patriots won their next 17 games. Including in the stretch were District 15 wins over Glasgow and Monroe County to enable AC-S to clinch the top seed in the district. The win streak was snapped as Glasgow edged AC-S 57-51 in the District 15 tournament’s championship game.
The recognition for Bonds marks the second consecutive year Bonds has won a coach-of-the- year award. Last season, Bonds was honored by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches as Region 4 Coach-of-the-Year after guiding AC-S to a 27-5 record.
Bonds is a 1994 graduate of Allen County-Scottsville High School and a 1998 graduate of Campbellsville University. Prior to returning to AC-S, Bonds coached basketball and softball in the Barren County School District. Upon returning to teach in the Allen County School District, Bonds coached the Lady Patriot softball team for three years. In 2007, Bonds succeeded Garry DeWitt as basketball coach. His seven-year career basketball coaching record is 135-74.
Bonds’ assistant coaches are Jeff Rippy, Angel Bonds, and Michelle Rich.
