BGHS’ Jamale Carothers named KY Mr. Football

Bowling Green High School’s very own Jamale Carothers has been named Kentucky Mr. Football by the Associated Press, announced on Thursday morning.

Carothers, a three-time state champion with the Purples, rushed for 5,731 yards in his prestigious career, including 1,410 in his senior year, to be tabbed Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Class 5A state championship and lead BG to its third title in the last four seasons.

The Navy commit scored 38 touchdowns, with 27 of those being rushing scores this past season and was the Purples’ leading scorer for the final three years he was with the program. While a member of the school’s team, Bowling Green went 55-3.

Carothers is the school’s second Kentucky Mr. Football, joining now-Western Kentucky football wide receiver Nacarius Fant, who won the award back in 2013.

On top of being the recipient of the award, Carothers was also named to the Associated Press First-Team All-State and took home the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year award back in December.
