It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Carothers! Purples get Number 48

Jamale 2 (360x640)The Purples knew they would have a challenge on the road, playing in Rash Stadium in Owensboro on Friday night.  But they certainly didn’t expect they fight they had against the Red Devils. Owensboro’s rush attack was able to break through on multiple occasions, led by some big runs by their QB Nick Locher.  Locher would end up running it in to the endzone 3 times in the first half.  Meanwhile, the Purples offense would hit some road blocks.  A couple of fumbles on their own side of the field would set up Owensboro for a couple of scores.  But Campbell Gott would find Robbie Lofton for paydirt twice in the first half, and the Purples were within one score going into the final minute of the first half.  Locher went to the air for his fourth TD of the first half, finding Airius Phillips for a 37 yard play. Then it became the Jamale Carothers show.  The sophomore running back would go for over 300 yards in the second half and four TDs, as Bowling Green would outscore Owensboro 28-8 to close out the game.  Both teams would miss field goals late, and Carothers’ fourth TD would give the Purples their largest lead of the game with just over two minutes to go.

Owensboro would have one last shot in the final minute, but could not get across the 50 as time runs out, and the Purples hold on for a big win on the road. We head back to the El next week, hosting McCallie out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  There will be a lot of great athletes on both sides of the field next week, so be sure to join us for another exciting matchup right here on PurplesNation.com!
