Bowling Green Lady Purples beat Greenwood

Keely Morrow scored 29 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Courtney DeWalt added 18 points and 8 rebounds of her own, helping Bowling Green’s girls’ basketball team win 73-65 on the road at Greenwood on Monday evening.

Riley Hartis dropped 21 points, 18 from three-pointers, to lead the Lady Gators in their setback.

The Lady Purples return to action on Tuesday night at home against Hopkins County Central with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. The Lady Gators return to the floor also on Tuesday at home against Allen County-Scottsville, with that contest scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The two teams gave it their all from the time the ball was thrown up all the way to the final buzzer.

Greenwood came out fired up and jumped out to an early 7-2 lead at the 4:47 mark of the first. The lead quickly changed to 11 at 13-2 right after a timeout called by Bowling Green thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Abigail Turley, but the Lady Gators would soon find themselves trailing.

With 1:47 remaining in the quarter, the Lady Purples had cut Greenwood’s advantage to 15-13 and then took the lead and was up 20-17 after Morrow’s three heading into the ensuing quarter.

In the second, the two teams continued to trade baskets one after another, as the Lady Gators held a slim 38-35 lead at halftime. The scoreboard was knotted at 26-26 at the 4:53 mark of the period, but Greenwood’s Hartis kept stoking and nailing deep jumpers, helping her club hold the lead at the break.

After two full quarters, Hartis led all scorers with 15 points, all on threes, while Morrow had tallied 14 points for Bowling Green.

The two sides continued to battle in the second half.

After three quarters, Greenwood was holding onto a 53-51 lead over the Lady Purples as Hartis and Morrow were still leading their respected teams.

It all went down in the fourth.

The Lady Gators began the scoring first on another three from Hartis and led 60-59 with 4:30 remaining. A Morrow free-throw following the jumper knotted things up and soon after Hartis would foul out.

Taking advantage of the situation, Bowling Green went on to outscore Greenwood 13-5 in the final minutes and escaped with a hard-fought victory on the road.
