BGHS vs Pulaski County
The two schools had never met prior to the 2013 season but have played in each of the past three years. The two schools met in the state finals in 2013 (49-14) and 2015 (21-7) with the Purples winning each game. BGHS also won at Pulaski County in Week 10 of the 2014 season, by a score of 23-7. Pulaski County went on to win the 2014 Class 5A State Championship.

SR QB Clark Payne threw for 233 yards and 3 TD’s as BGHS secured its 10th trip to a championship game. SR RB Jamale Carothers scored three times while racking up 123 yards rushing and 12 yards receiving. JR WR Ziyon Kenner (5 rec 94 yards) and SR WR Deangelo Wilson (3 rec 36 yards) both had touchdown catches. The Purples defense forced three turnovers, getting interceptions from Austin Echols, DeVito Tisdale, and Justice Dingle.
SR OLB Rashad Darden had the best night of his career with 6 tackles, 3 assists, 2 tackles for loss, and one sack. SR DE Dalen Cofer added 5 tackles, 3 assists, 2 tackles for loss, and one sack.
Purples Superlatives– *Jamale Carothersnow has 484 points in his career and is the all-time leading scorer at BGHS. His 202 points this season is the 2nd highest total at BGHS, trailing Avery Hibbitt’s 204 points scored in 2006. Carothers now has 80 career TD’s, tying him for 26th in KHSAA career statistics.
* SR WR Deangelo Wilson now has 266 career points, placing him 10th on the career scoring list. Wilson’s 37 receiving TD’s rank him in 17th on the KHSAA list of career receiving TD’s. Wilson also now appears on the KHSAA career list with 147 receptions (tied for 28th) and receiving yards, 2517 (34th).
*Clark Payne reached the single-season 3,000 yard mark for the first time in his career. Payne now has 3562 yards and has thrown 74 career TD passes (50th in KHSAA records), ranking him second at BGHS behind Devin Hayes (87). Payne now has 6205 career passing yards (71st most in KHSAA history), which also trails on Hayes (6516). Payne’s .655 career completion percentage is the 6th highest ever in KHSAA history. Payne has completed .680 of his passses this season, the 21st highest single-season completion percentage in KHSAA history.

*The Purples now have a 26-game win streak, joining Boyle County and Highlands as the only schools with three separate win streaks of 25 or more games. The Purples won 26 in a row (1995-96) and 48 in a row (2011-14) *The 2016 Purples have scored 657 points this season. That is the 4th highest total in Purples history. All 10 teams at BGHS that reached 500+ points in a season played in a state championship game. The 2011 team holds the school record with 738 points. *The BGHS Seniors that have been a part of the program for four years reached the 50-win mark with the victory at McCracken County. Their record now stands at 54-3 during their tenure with BGHS. *BGHS Football began play in 1922. Since that time, the Purples have amassed a record of 682-331-35, placing them 8th spot on the KHSAA wins list. The Purples are tied for 11th in state championships (5), are among only 12 schools in state history that have won three consecutive championships, and their 48-game win streak (2011-14) is the second longest in state history. *Over the past six seasons, BGHS is 83-3 (.965). The Purples are now 77-26 (.745) all-time in the playoffs. BGHS has won 26 of their past 27 playoff games. BGHS has won 14 region titles. Kevin Wallace (57-15) and Dan Haley (20-9) have accounted for all playoff victories at BGHS. BGHS is 5-4 in their nine previous state title game appearances. Under Dan Haley, BGHS was 1-1 in title games, losing to Cov. Catholic in 1994 and defeated Highlands in 1995. Kevin Wallace is 4-3 in championship games winning games in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015, while losing in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Kevin Wallace has passed Mojo Hollowell to move into 12th spot in career KHSAA wins. Wallace is 289-99 (.744) in his career, including a 243-38 (.864) mark at BGHS. Coach Wallace has a career playoff record of 57-15 (.789). Wallace is tied for 10th in KHSAA state championship appearances (8,) and tied for 12th in state championships won (4). A win on Sunday would move Wallace into a tie for 8th for the most state championships won (5).
