Breckinridge County slips by Grayson County on last second 3!!!!
It wasn’t the most beautiful game played between two teams which are vying for the 3rd Region Tournament, but it was an exciting one as Breckinridge County traveled to Grayson County to exact some revenge.
The Lady Cougars beat the Lady Tigers several weeks back 60-52 when senior guard Allie Horton went off scoring 20-points. this time around it was teammate Grace White, who had a huge game scoring 29-points and constantly kept he the Lady Tigers off balance along with teammate Shannon Smith, who scored all of her 12-points on threes. In the end it was a freshman, who fired the loudest shot of the day. With about a half a minute remaining and Grayson County clinging to a 52-50 lead, the Lady Tigers set up on offense. As they swung the ball around the left side of the court, senior guards Lily Grimes and Sarah Shrewsberry appeared to be covered up, so the ball went out on the right wing to freshman Natalee Tabor, who fired the ball towards the goal and sank the shot that turned a two-point deficit to a one-point lead. It was Tabor’s first game winning shot of her varsity career and it assured the Lady Tigers of a victory when Grayson County was unable to get a shot off as time expired.
It was a great comeback for a team which had recently come down to earth with a couple of tough losses to both John Hardin and Elizabethtown. The highest scoring offense in the 3rd Region really needed something to build on again for confidence and Grimes gave them that with her 23-points and the defense helped turn the game around after Breckinridge County fell behind early trailing 28-21 at the half.
