The Case for Elizabethtown Lady Panthers!!!!
The Lady Panthers have won the 5th Region Girls Tournament and represented the State Tournament the last three seasons. In fact, only three different teams have won the 5th Region Tournament the last eleven seasons (Elizabethtown 6-times, Marion County 4-times and North Hardin once).
So sitting at 23-3 with one regular season game to go, what is different about this season’s team from last season? Answer: Outside of Erin Boley, Rachel Warden, Ramsey Deaton and Tim Mudd Nothing!!!!! This team is once again on a pace to repeat as 5th Region Champions and equal (possibly surpassing last season’s team) last season’s record (30-5) depending on what happens from this point on. It’s almost as if no matter who the cast of characters are the results are always the same. Jenna Goblirsch eventually phased out Lara Donnelly and was phased out by Natalie Greenwell and then along came Warden.
Just as Boley phased out Alex Jones, who phased out Sara Sexton. This season’s cast consists of senior guard Jada Stinson (438-points and 35-three’s), senior power forward Taylor Thomas (290-points and 158-rebounds), freshman Whitney Hay (252-points), junior Tanisia Murphy (245-points) and junior outside shooter Karsen Knight (239-points). Oh Yes! First year head coach Donnie Swiney, who stepped into the head coach role after longtime Lady Panther coach Mudd stepped down after last season hasn’t really changed anything as the team just keeps on rolling along.
Elizabethtown hasn’t lost a District game since 2009 and despite a stiff challenge by improving John Hardin has continued to dominate. So what could trip this team up? Good question. One thing is for sure. It will take a superior effort by some team to do so as the Lady Panthers don’t usually beat themselves as they do the little things necessary to win like rebounding, playing solid defense and free throw shooting.
