“CoCo” heads to the Hill

Russellville standout Tacorian “CoCo” Darden capped off an unprecedented senior football season with the announcement that he will be a preferred walk-on this fall for the WKU football team. The quarterback/defensive back was named First Team All-State by the Courier-Journal, Class 1A State Player of the Year, 4th Region Player of the Year, All-State Second Team by the Associated Press, appeared in the Border Battle all-state game, and was an Honorable Mention Academic All-State honoree. In his senior season, Darden led the Panthers to a 9-4 record and will now take his talents to the Hill. Interestingly enough, Darden was named Homecoming King during the football season and the basketball season this year.

Greenwood senior Ellie Young signed her letter-of-intent to further her soccer career at the collegiate level where she will don the red and white for Western Kentucky University. The midfielder chose to play for her hometown team because of her love for the school and the program. Greenwood Lady Gator soccer coach Lindsey Medley played for the Lady Toppers and provided Young with a great resource on what it would be like to play for WKU. Young set school records while at Greenwood with 110 career goals and 42 goals in one season. She chose WKU over Belmont and Bellarmine.
