The 2018 high school softball regular season has concluded but the action on the diamond is just now heating up, as the District 14 Softball Tournament is set to take place from Monday to Thursday at Warren East High School.
As all five area teams enter with hopes of taking home the trophy, only one club will be able to say they’re district champions.
Here’s a rundown of the tournament, which will make for three exciting days of postseason softball action:
District 14 Softball Tournament Seeding:
- South Warren
- Warren East
- Greenwood
- Bowling Green
- Warren Central
District 14 Softball Tournament Schedule:
- Monday, May 21 – No. 4 Bowling Green (8-13, 1-6) vs. No. 5 Warren Central (1-19, 0-7) – 6 p.m.
Bowling Green enters Monday’s tournament opener having won five of its last seven, while Warren Central’s lone win of the season came April 27 vs. Clinton County.
In the two sides’ regular-season matchup back on April 10, the Lady Purples won 15-0 in a three-inning contest.
For the winner of the meeting, it doesn’t get any easier, as it’ll have to face top-seeded South Warren.
Tyler’s Pick: Bowling Green 15, Warren Central 0
- Tuesday, May 22 – No. 1 South Warren (19-6, 7-1) vs. No. 4 Bowling Green/No. 5 Warren Central – 5:30 p.m.
South Warren is one of the hottest teams entering the District 14 Tournament.
The Spartans — winners of eight of their last 10 — will meet the winner of Bowling Green and Warren Central in the first semifinal matchup. South swept both the Lady Purples and Lady Dragons in the regular season and is very familiar with how to get past each of the two clubs.
Tyler’s Pick: South Warren 15, Bowling Green 0
- Tuesday, May 22 – No. 2 Warren East (24-4, 6-2) vs. No. 3 Greenwood (15-17, 5-3) – 7:30 p.m.
Alongside South Warren, Warren East enters Tuesday’s semifinal tilt against Greenwood on a roll.
The Lady Raiders have won nine of their last 11 and most recently only suffered a 2-1 loss to East Carter — the state’s No. 2 ranked team and a 32-0, undefeated group — last Friday in the Manual Softball Showcase at the University of Louisville.
Warren East swept Greenwood in the regular season, winning 5-4 and 5-0, respectively, but the Lady Gators come into Tuesday having won two straight.
Tyler’s Pick: Warren East 6, Greenwood 2
- Thursday, May 24 – Championship – 6:30 p.m.
As it’ll likely be No. 1 South Warren vs. No. 2 Warren East in the title match – as I have it, at least – it’ll mark the second consecutive season and third time overall the two sides have met for the District 14 championship.
The Spartans swept the Lady Raiders in the regular season, taking wins of 13-12 and 4-0.
Tyler’s Pick: Warren East 3, South Warren 2 – Both go to Region 4 Tournament at WKU
