Dragons Advance to 14th District Finals Face Purples

Warren Central and Warren East went to battle Thursday in the first round of the District 14 Tournament. In a win or go home situation, the Dragons overcame adversity and defeated the Raiders 65-56, marking the third win over the cross-town rival on the season. The victory advances the Dragons to the District Championship game, where they will play Bowling Green High School Saturday at 6 pm.

With an obvious size advantage and a relentless full court pressure defense, the Dragons seized the lead early and held on the entire game. Lead by the play of senior forward Darrell Bowman, Warren Central dominated the rebounding battle and the inside game. Bowman, who was named our Bluegrass Cellular Player of the Game, scored a game-high 22 points and was an unstoppable force down low.
Bowman wasn’t the only Dragon to produce. Senior guard Tristen Murray tallied 12 points of his own while sophomore forward Skyelar Potter scored 11 and was a force on the glass. Warren Central took a 30-24 lead into halftime, extended their lead to double digits several times in the second half, and cruised to another region tournament bid.
The win was the 18th of the year for the Dragons who have now won 7 of their last 9 games. Their next opponent, the Purples of Bowling Green, have defeated the Dragons twice already this season. The two foes will face for the third time at Bowling Green High School with a district championship on the line.
