Edmonson County Wildcats Mount Comeback, Just Fall Short…..

Football Friday Night saw the Edmonson County Wildcats travel to Lewisport, KY to take on the Hancock County Hornets. The Hornets fresh off of a win against Trigg County, and the Wildcats coming off of a tough loss to Grayson County at home.

The first quarter saw both teams move the ball well, but both defenses came up with big drive stopping plays. With 4:44 left to go in the quarter, The Hornets quarterback, Koert Morris, hit Beau Case on a 19 yard pass play for a touchdown. Two point conversion was good.

The first part of the second quarter was much the same as the first quarter. After nice long drives by both teams that came up empty, the Hornets score a touchdown on a nice pass play from Koert Morris to Michael Vaeth. Two point conversion was good.

The Wildcats finally put a nice scoring drive together. With 16.4 seconds to go in the half, John Finch took the handoff from Jake Dial 3 yards for the touchdown. The 2 point conversion was good.

The Wildcats then gave up a big 46 yard touchdown pass from Koert Morris to Beau Case with just 7.1 seconds left to go in the 2nd quarter.

The Wildcats trailed at halftime 23-8.

To start the 3rd quarter, Wildcat kicker Brett Brannon attempted a successful onside kick. Dylan Waldrop recovered the ball for the Wildcats at the Hornet 43 yard line. The Wildcats turned the onside kick into points 5 plays later as they punched it in the end zone. Extra point was no good. After 3 quarters, the Wildcats trail 23-14.

With 11:41 left to go in the game, after a nice defensive series by the Wildcats to force a punt, the snap was snapped over the punters head. Tyler Hayse recovered the botched punt and ran it 24 yards into the end zone. Extra point was good. Wildcats trail 23-21.

Just: 33 seconds later, after a nice kickoff return set up the Hornets in good field position, Beau Case scores on a 44 yard TD run. Hancock Co. led 30-21.IMG_0530 (426x640)

On the following kickoff, Jarod Hines returned the ball 60 yards to the Hornet 25. Jake Dial then hit Garry Foley with a nice pass in the corner of the end zone. The Wildcats trail 30-29.

After another Hornets touchdown with 8:39 left on the clock, the Wildcats took the ball down the field on 11 plays, and Jake Dial scored on a quarterback keeper. The extra point is good. With 1:49 left to go in the game, the Wildcats trail 38-36.

The Hornets covered the onside kick, and knelt down to run the clock out to seal the 38-36 win over Edmonson County.

The Wildcats will host Metcalfe County next week in Brownsville. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
