Preview

The Glasgow Scotties will look to win its third-consecutive game in its rivalry with Allen County-Scottsville. After tightly-contested matchups between 2015 and 2017, the Scotties have dominated the series in each of its last two meetings – outscoring the Patriots 78-14. Sixth-year coach Jeff Garmon will have to knock off the team’s rival without the services of departed quarterback Tanner Abernathy, leading rusher Nick Mitchell, and second-leading receiver Kynarious Flynt. With all three lost to graduation, it will be up to the likes of junior QB/DB John Myers (66 tackles, five interceptions in 2019), senior linebacker Mason Bragg (66 tackles in 2019), junior running back Hunter Scott (nearly 1,000 all-purpose yards, 16 TDs in 2019) to carry the load.

As for coach Brad Hood’s Patriots, the expectations are high for the squad after finishing with the program’s first losing record since 2016. Much of the excitement centers on the senior class – one that coach Hood has called a “special class”. Senior quarterback Trace McIntyre returns after compiling over 1,300 yards of offense last season. Senior running back Landon Witcher also returns after posting 739 rushing yards and eight touchdowns last season. Wide receiver Jax Cooper will look to improve upon a solid 2019 in which the rising senior caught 27 passes for 587 yards and five touchdowns. Junior linebacker Chris Holland will look to pace the defense again after breaking out in 2019 with 78 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.

Prediction

Swack Attack: Glasgow 30, Allen County-Scottsville 17

Brunk’s Trunk: Glasgow 28, ACS 14

Brent “shaker & mover” Thompson: ACS 24, Glasgow 17

DT Breakdown: ACS 27, Glasgow 24

Swack “I expect this game to be much closer than the last two seasons; however, I predict Glasgow will pull away in the second half to defeat Allen. Running back Hunter Scott will have a strong game and lead the Scotties on the ground, while John Myers will present difficulties for the Patriot defense with his ability to run and throw. The experience AC-S returns will give the Patriot faithful hope for the season as they look to get back on track in 2020.”
