If you are a fan of Georgia Tech or Navy, you may want to attend the high school football game between Greenwood and Franklin-Simpson on Friday night.
Both the Gators and Wildcats run a lethal triple option that gives nightmares to defensive coordinators in the area. The two teams meet Friday night in Franklin in a game where a pass play will be a rarity.
Greenwood (1-2) is led by quarterback Jackson Adams, the senior ranked as the 7th-best rusher in the state with 495 yards and six touchdowns on 54 attempts. Adams has put the ball into the air very few times on the year, completing 6-of-20 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.
The Gators have also seen solid production from junior Triston Wilson and senior Xezayier Snorton. Wilson has rushed for 344 yards and two touchdowns on 37 attempts, while Snorton has accumulated 200 yards and two scores on 26 rushes.
Franklin-Simpson (1-2) will look to explosive running back Carlos McKinney for big plays on Friday night, the junior rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns on 32 attempts.
The Wildcats will also lean on the duo of junior Tre Bass and senior Saul Brady. Bass has rushed for 207 yards and three scores on 15 attempts, with Brady adding 194 yards and two touchdowns on 24 handoffs.
This is an essential game for both the Gators and the Wildcats, as both teams have a losing record after the first three games of the season.
Greenwood is coming off a pair of heart-breaking games to Warren East and Allen County-Scottsville in which they simply couldn’t finish.
The Gators led the Raiders 31-21 late in the third quarter before giving up 16 unanswered points to end the game, giving the possum to Warren East for the first time.
Greenwood led ACS 23-12 at the half this past Saturday before being shut out in the second half en route to a 26-23 Patriots’ victory.
Meanwhile Franklin-Simpson will look to bounce back after suffering a tough 36-7 defeat to rival South Warren this past Saturday. The Wildcats’ lone win on the season is a 48-0 victory at Monroe County.
Kickoff between the Gators and Wildcats is set for 7 p.m. Friday night at Franklin-Simpson High School.
