Gators Even Series With Warren Central

The Greenwood Gators took the second game of this week’s three game series with the Warren Central Dragons, beating them on a neutral site at Warren East High School, by a final score of 6-2.

The Dragons drew first blood off of Gator starter Sam Dralle, who did not have his best stuff, as he allowed four hits and two runs in the top of the first inning, facing 7 batters. The Gators would also send seven batters to the plate in their portion of the first, but were only able to get one run across. However, in the second and third innings, the Gators were able to put a crooked number in the line score.

Dragon starter Ethan Johnson didn’t have a great day either, but unlike Dralle, who was able to settle down and throw four more innings of one hit ball, Johnson was taken out with one out in the bottom of the second inning, following back to back innings of loading the bases, and allowing Greenwood to score three times. Simply put, Johnson couldn’t find the strike zone, and Greenwood’s hitters were patient enough to take the walks.

One through three hitters for Greenwood – Drew Hayles, John Halcomb and Russ Kerr – each came to the plate once in the first three innings, and each would score a run. Hayles and Kerr finished the night with two hits each, while Halcomb was able to work walks in order to get on base. Nine hitter Nick Sanders was the only player to score twice, doing so after reaching on a walk and a base hit.

Coming in for relief of Dralle was Noah Edmonson, who was nearly untouchable. Edmonson faced 10 batters in his two innings of work, and found himself in a two out, two on jam, but got first baseman, and last night’s Drangons pitcher, Josh Floyd to pop out in the outfield to end the game.

The rubber match will take place at Aaron Fletcher Field at Greenwood High School on Thursday, after an off day for both squads tomorrow. That game can be heard on GoGatorsNation.com.
