Gators takes a bite out of Cougars, Moves to 7-1

After a fall break bye week, the Gators returned to the swamp for district game #2 against Grayson County. The Cougars would prove to not be scared of this matchup, as they would strike first with Nathaniel Schartzer’s 3 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Tristan Willis. The Gators would get the answer, as Noah Pillow busted through the line for a 15 yard touchdown run to square the game at 7. Fullback Xezayier Snorton would keep the ball rolling for the Gators with a 1 yard touchdown run to make it 14-7.

The Cougars were unable to answer thanks to the savvy defense of the Gators. Pillow would add to the ground and pound success with a 53 yard touchdown explosion to make it 21-7 Greenwood early into the second quarter. The last score of the half would be awarded to the Gators with a 58 yard touchdown pass from Adams to Jake Sanson to make it 28-7. The second half would start off with a quick 35 yard touchdown pass from Adams to Blake Barker to make it 35-7 Gators early in the third quarter.

The Cougars would finally get back on the board with a Dustin Woosley 10 yard touchdown gallop to make it 35-14 halfway through the third. Adams would respond in a timely manner with a 40 yard touchdown run to make it 42-14 Greenwood. Tanner South would kick and make his first field goal of the season from 37 yards out to make it 45-14 Gators near the end of the third. Greenwood would get a safety with 25 seconds left in the quarter to make it 47-14 Greenwood. Backup quarterback Roy Sheckles would add the final score of the game for the Gators with a 1 yard touchdown run with 9:01 to go in the fourth quarter. The running clock was on and the game was final with Greenwood getting the win 54-14 over the Cougars. Malcolm Johnson was the Toyota of Bowling Green player of the game with several tackles, 1 interception, and two fumble recoveries. The Gators improve to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in the district with the win. Greenwood will be back at the swamp next Friday night for district game #3 as they take on cross-town powerhouse Bowling Green (7-1) at 7.
