Girls 4th Region Tournament Roundup | Russell County cruises past Franklin-Simpson, South Warren pulls away from Barren County

Russell County 58, Franklin-Simpson 30
After losing their first district championship game in three years, Russell County righted the ship in the Girls 4th Region Tournament on Monday evening with a 58-30 win over Franklin-Simpson.
Looking to get the stale taste of their defeat at the hands of Metcalfe County out of their mouths, Russell County (24-8) scored the first points of the game and never gave their lead up.
After a considerable defensive effort by both teams in the first quarter, which ended with a 6-4 Russell County lead, the Lady Lakers outscored the Lady Wildcats 15-6 in the second quarter to take a 21-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Russell County never took their foot off the gas from that point on, scoring 38 points in the second half while holding Franklin-Simpson (15-16) to a mere 20.C5t1XO4VUAAN0j-[1]
Kaitlyn Coffey led the Lady Lakers with 15 points, while LaShaya Carmen netted 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jessie Beller led Franklin-Simpson with 14 points in her last game as a Lady Wildcat.
South Warren 51, Barren County 38
After receiving a defensive wake-up call while trailing 14-12 after the first quarter, South Warren locked down on Barren County to grab a 51-38 win in the Girls 4th Region Tournament on Monday evening. After building their lead to 19-12, Barren County gave up a 13-2 lead in the second quarter to go into the half trailing 25-21.
The Lady Spartans went on to outscore the Trojanettes (20-13) 30-11 over the second and third quarter to build a 42-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Although Barren’s offense awoke in the final period, outscoring South Warren (22-8) 13-9, it proved to be too late as the margin was already too wide.
Amaya Lasley scored 18 points to lead the Lady Spartans while Deanna Taylor grabbed 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mallory Pedigo topped Barren County with 11 points.
