Girls Basketball District Tournaments in the 5th Region begin today. Here is a breakdown.
th District Tournament @ North Hardin: Tuesday 5:30 Elizabethtown (22-0) will take on North Hardin (4-13). Although the Lady Panthers graduated much of their starting talent from last season, they are still unbeaten and the first team to tackle them will be North Hardin, who has struggled with injuries this season, but have played better of late. The Lady Panthers make no secret about who they want to have the ball and that’s eighth grader Leah Macy, but they have other people who can score. The 8:00 game will feature John Hardin (6-13) vs. Central Hardin (12-6) and the Lady Bruins love their defense, while they let Monica and Alyssa Lindsey do the scoring. Even though the Lady Bruins have beaten the Lady Bulldogs twice in both regular season meetings, John Hardin has been playing better of late and should be up to the task.
th District Tournament @ LaRue County: Tuesday night, Hart County (10-5) will take on Caverna (2-11) in the opening round. The Lady Raiders have put together a great season and would love another trip to the Region Tournament. Hart County defeated Caverna in their only meeting 74-38 and got big game from Dea Bradley (25-points) and the Lady Raiders are getting big seasons from Haley Sturgeon and Kiley Adcock as well. Wednesday night, Top seed Green County (12-6) will take on home standing LaRue County (8-12). The Lady Dragons have put together a great seson and are currently on a eight game winning streak, yet the Lady Hawks beat them in their only regular season meeting, 56-50. In that game, Paige Evans led the way with 18-points on 4-of-5 three’s.
th District Tournament @ Nelson County: Monday night opens the 19th and Thomas Nelson (8-17) vs. Washington County (3-15) will be the lead in game to decide who plays top seed Bardstown (18-5) on Tuesday night. In the other bracket, Thursday night Bethlehem (20-4) will face Nelson County (12-12)and this should be in interesting matchup. Even though the Banshees beat the Lady Cardinals 61-48, it was far from easy. If the Lady Tigers and the Banshees do reach the District Final, it would be a possible matchup of 5th Region Final teams as both have played a Top Ten schedule during the season.
th District Tournament @ Adair County: Wednesday night, Campbellsville (13-8) will face homestanding Adair County (5-14) in the opening round. The Lady Eagles have put together an impressive season behind the scoring of Briante Gowdy and Lainey Watson and did beat Adair County in their only regular season meeting, 43-32. Thursday night, Marion County (9-5) will play Taylor County (9-11) to decide who will meet in the District Final. Coach Kelly Wood’s Lady Knights did manage to edge the Lady Cardinals in their regular season meeting, 48-47 getting 17-points from Deyera Spalding and 12 from Lily Thompson.
