GLASGOW — Robert Kingery registered a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Tucker Kirkpatrick knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 19 points to lead Glasgow to a dominating 81-46 win over Lighthouse Christian (Tenn.) on Thursday in the Barren Hoops Classic at Barren County High School.
The Scotties (5-4 overall) – which bounced back from Wednesday’s 77-56 loss to Clay County (Tenn.) – led 25-7 after the first quarter and built a 43-20 lead at halftime. They continued to execute in the second half, were up 63-33 entering the fourth and cruised throughout the final eight minutes.
“Just glad we responded after probably one of our worst overall performances last night,” Glasgow coach James Willett said. “I was proud of them. We came in the gym (before the game) and had a little shootaround and talked about some things. We just focused on simply playing harder and staying together better, and I think we did that tonight.”
While Kingery and Kirkpatrick both stuffed the Glasgow stat sheet, Nick Sorrell added 15 points to give the Scotties three different players in double figures and make for an all-around offensive performance.
Nick Kennard carried Lighthouse Christian (1-8) with 18 points, while Jamari Teague tallied 13.
“We needed that after last night,” Sorrell said. “We played poorly and didn’t have energy, but in this game we came out with energy.”
Despite only leading 7-5 at the 4:46 mark of the opening quarter, Glasgow quickly put its foot on the gas and took its game to another level as the Scotties went on a commanding 18-2 run to build a 25-7 advantage after eight minutes of action.
Kirkpatrick’s fourth three of the contest pushed Glasgow’s lead to 40-17 at the 2:37 mark of the second, and the Scotties were soon up 43-20 at the break. Kirkpatrick was already up to 16 points, while Kingery had tallied 14 points and eight rebounds.
“It felt good,” Kirkpatrick said. “My teammates were getting me open and making the extra pass. We made a lot of assists tonight, and that really helped us all.”
The Scotties knocked down five total threes in the first half and outrebounded Lighthouse Christian 18-7.
Glasgow continued to dominant in the ensuing half.
Opening the third quarter with a 9-0 run, the Scotties quickly changed the scoreboard to 52-20 and forced a Lighthouse Christian timeout. A pair of Sorrell free throws with 1:40 remaining in the quarter made it 61-33 – and Glasgow soon took a 63-33 advantage into the fourth.
Taking advantage of their lopsided lead, the Scotties were able to cruise through the final frame and earn a victory to snap their three-game skid.
“It helps us a lot,” said Kirkpatrick of the win. “We fell a little right there and lost two or three straight, now we just bounced back with a big win like that. Our energy was high tonight and it showed.”
Glasgow will be back in action Friday in the final day of the Barren Hoops Classic against Elizabethtown. Tipoff is scheduled for Noon.
