Glasgow will face one of its toughest tests of the season on Friday night, as it hosts a dominant Danville club in the semifinals of the Class 2A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl at 7 p.m.
The Scotties (10-3 overall), who will play in their first state semifinal game since 2011, earned a spot in the final four with an impressive 40-14 win over Monroe County last week.
Against Monroe, Glasgow quarterback Tanner Abernathy completed 10-of-15 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 95 yards and another pair of scores. Additionally, Dalvin Smith caught six passes for 156 yards and a TD and Nick Mitchell ran for 168 yards.
Danville travels to Glasgow as one of the state’s hottest teams, posting an unscathed 13-0 record to give it one of its best starts in school history. The Admirals advanced to the semifinal round after beating Lexington Christian 49-7 at home in the quarterfinals.
In their win last Friday, the Admirals were led by quarterback Zach Thornton, who tallied four TD passes with 267 yards. Thornton’s main wide receiver – Dmauriae VanCleave – finished with 128 yards and two touchdowns.
Glasgow and Danville haven’t met since Nov. 18, 2008 – a 45-6 Admirals’ win in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.
