GLASGOW – When Glasgow held Warren Central to just two first-half points, Lady Scottie coach Justin Stinson told his players at halftime that they would receive quite a prize if they held the Lady Dragons to single digits for the entire game: he would cook them a hearty breakfast consisting of items such as sausage, bacon, eggs, biscuits, and even one of the coach’s personal favorites—chocolate gravy.
While the Lady Scotties were unable to achieve their goal and get to savor this delicious buffet of food, Glasgow still turned in an overall dominant defensive performance in a 45-12 win over Warren Central on Monday evening.
“I thought we did a good job defensively,” Stinson said. “We were active with our hands and we contested several shots. We made it difficult for them to get a clean look.”
We’re not a team that’s going to be explosive and we’re not going to be a team that is going to score 70. We’re a team that is going to hang our hat on defense and rebounding every single night. That has to be our M.O. and that has to be our identity.”
Ashanti Gore led Glasgow in the win with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Amanda Lee added 14 points as the Lady Scotties improved to 4-1 with the victory.
Warren Central fell to 0-7 on this year’s campaign with the loss. Kenneddee Johnson had six points to lead the Lady Dragons, who will play their first home game of the year against Butler County on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile Glasgow will continue its four-game homestand with Hart County. With it being so early in the season, Stinson just wants his team to improve from game-to-game.
“It’s about growth and it’s about us right now,” Stinson said.”Nobody wins championships in December. We’re hoping to be in the mix come February, and we’re just looking to grow and get better each and every day.”
