The Greenwood Gators lost their first game in 49 outings on the softball field Saturday evening, in the semifinals of the Big M Chevrolet tournament to the McCacken County Mustangs by an 8-0 final score.
The Gator defense play struggled in in the 1st inning, and it all went downhill from there, as the Mustangs put up two runs in the 1st, five in the 3rd, and one in the 4th to take the game.
No Lady Gator reached past 2nd base, and the Gators showed a lack of discipline at the plate, swinging at a majority of the first pitches, and many of them turning into popups or groundouts.
The Lady Gators finish the tournament with a record of 3-1-1, and showed a lot of good things, including that they can continue to play with anyone in the state like they did last year when they won the state title, including coming back from behind to tie Male, and coming back from behind to beat Mercy 6-3.
A glaring absence from the Lady Gators line-up is senior Ace Pitcher Elizabeth Moss who has been working through some back issues. Moss went 27-0 on the mound during the 2013 regular season and lead her team to perfect run through the post season and a 2013 state championship.
