Greenwood Lady Gators Rout Western Hills For First Weekend Win

Hitting2The Lady Gators of Greenwood put up four runs in the 1st inning, three runs in the 2nd inning and two runs in the 3rd inning to pull away from the Western Hills Wolverines by a 9-5 final, in only 4 innings of ball, due to the time constraints of the Big M Chevrolet Tournament.
Gators’ catcher Areon Smith finished the day a home run shy of the cycle, as she singled in the first, recorded an RBI double in the second, and brought two runners home with a triple in the third. Smith would go on to score twice herself.
It was a rough start to the game for freshman Gator pitcher GraceAnn Rimel, as she hit the first two batters she faced and walked the third to load the bases with no out, but struck out two and got a groundout to end the threat without surrendering a run. Rimel would strike out five Wolves on the day.
The win moves the Gators to 3-0-1 on the season, while the loss drops Western Hills to 0-5.
Greenwood will face off against Madisonville-North Hopkins later this morning, around 10:00am Bowling Green time, and will try to punch their ticket to the knockout stages of the tournament.
