                                            GREENWOOD TAKES DOWN BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY!

It was 4th Region vs,. 3rd Region last Thursday Night as Breckinridge County took on Greenwood in an out of District matchup in high school volleyball. As expected it was pretty intense.

The Lady Gators, which were one of the top programs in the state and had tasted defeat only once all season (to McCracken County in the Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament back in late August) were eventually just too much for the Lady Tigers to handle and swept 3-games to none (25-18, 25-9, 25-16), although in the beginning it looked like it would a much different story. Breckinridge County, which was 23-15 last season and was ranked among the top teams in the 3rd Region (15-5) really held it’s own early in the first game taking a quick lead and actually held fast for much of the match until late when the Lady Gators finally seized control and taking the first set 25-18.

The second set was a different story as Greenwood took control early using their quick back row defenders to set up their awesome array of spikers and put the game away quickly at 25-9. The third set was a bit more competitive, but Greenwood eventually came out victorious 25-16. Afterwards, several of the Lady Tigers talked in amazement at the array of talent on the Lady Gator front line and how playing teams like Greenwood and Region rival Meade County helps prepare them for the upcoming challenges in the future. Breckinridge County faces upcoming tests in a return match at home against Meade County later in the month while Greenwood will continue their demanding schedule as both teams walked away with a positive impression afterwards.
