Greenwood welcomed in Warren Central to kick off their first District 14 series of the season. The inexperienced Gators came in looking to snap their 6 game losing streak against the veteran Dragons from Warren Central.
Caleb Miller started the game for the Gators, showing a lot of grit and determination to work himself out of a couple jams in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Miller allowed two hits and had three strikeouts through the first three frames.
The Gators best chance to score came in the 3rd inning. Scotty Harris led off with a walk and then advanced to 3rd after a single by Titus Thornhill. Harris tried to go home on a high chopper to third, but a good throw to the plate gunned down Harris.
Greenwood held Central scoreless until the 4th inning. The Dragons tacked three runs up on the scoreboard on the back of two hits and of 2 errors committed by the Gators. Logan Bell, Austin Marciw, and Josh Floyd all came around to score for Warren Central.
From that point forward it was a pitcher’s duel. Caleb Miller finished out his six innings of work allowing four hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. Miller allowed the three runs to cross the plate in the 4th inning, but was only charged for one of those.
Clay Mattison came in during the 7th inning to shut down the Dragons in the top of the inning, giving the Gators one more chance to but something up on the scoreboard. Alex Locke reached first base on a five-pitch walk, but that was the extent of the Greenwood offense in the bottom of the 7th.
The Gators dropped the first game of the series 3-0. With the loss the skid continues to grow for Greenwood as they fall to 0-7 on the season.
