Hornets Find New Focus on Defense, Pick Up Win in Nashville

In the first half of the season, the Hornets had allowed an average of 119 points per game.  Middle Tennessee had been the benefactor of two of those games, but Bowling Green flipped the script in their third meeting._MG_6988

The Hornets came out shooting to start the game, but it was the defense, bolstered by new signees Brandon Harris and O’Karo Akamune, that made the difference,  holding the storm to 45 points in the first half.  Bowling Green started the second of half with an 11 point run, but a late spurt at the end of the third, and a 12-2 run early in the fourth quarter put the Storm back up.  It was a back and forth affair in the final period, and when Michael Gardner and Akamune fouled out with three minutes to go, it looked bleak for the Hornets as the faced a size disadvantage that had plagued them against this squad the past two meetings.  But the Hornets rallied behind a couple key steals from Maurice Hampton and a couple throw down dunks for John Paul Nyadaro,  and BG closed out the game on a 13-2 run to win 106-97.  Chase Spreen lead the Hornets with 20 points, knocking down four from beyond the arc.

The Hornets are back in action next week, as we host the Memphis Soul Kings at Russellville High School Saturday night.  Tipoff is second for 6:00, and you can catch all the action here on BGHornets.com!
