The Hornets scored on just the third play of the game, after a offsides by Green County, then a bad snap recovered by the Hornets, the Hornets scored on a 84 yard pass , where Wyatt Blythe found a wide open Sawyer Edmunds for the house call.

The Hornets never looked back after.

The Hornets would go onto get another big district win over the Dragons 34-6, getting the Hornets first road win since 2017.Metcalfe starting defense held the heavy running Dragons to zero points. Coach Harbison knew coming into the game they would have to stop the heavy running Dragons.

The Dragons could not find a answer for the Hornets. The Dragons Coached by Jeremy L. Whitlow, coming into this game were (1-4) on the season and (0-1) in district play. They could not stop the Hornet offense, The Dragons needed this big district win, but the Hornet offense was to much to handle.

“ I thought the boys played a heck of a game” Coach LJ Harbison said after the game “ I Thought we did a good job dominating up front, The O-line and D-Line, I thought they played well, and let our running backs run free”

“When you come on the road its always great to get that district win” Harbison said.

It was a very rainy night in Greensburg Kentucky, the sight of this district showdown of the green County Dragons, and the Metcalfe County Hornets. In last years matchup Green County defeated the Hornets, in overtime,  to put the Hornets out of play contention 14-6. Coach LJ was sure to remind his players of that heartbreak.

The Hornets received the opening kick, on the first play they got the Dragons to jump offsides, the following play quarterback Peyton Dial, for the Hornets didn’t catch the snap, and the ball went 10 yards back, but the Hornets were able to recover. Finally a normal play and the Hornets scored a trick play, a pass from wide receiver Wyatt Blythe to  Sawyer Edmunds , he would take it 80 yards to the house to get the Hornets going and a quick 7-0 lead with 11:04 in the first quarter.

The Dragons tried to answer, They broke a long touchdown for also about 80 yards, but was brought back for holding, and the Dragons would go onto turn it over on downs.

The next Hornets drive they would score again, They took over on about the 50 and marched all the way to 9 yard line. Where they would hand it to senior running back Gabe Zurmehly, and he drug the Dragon defense about 3 yards for the powerful touchdown. The Hornets made the PAT to make the score 14-0 with 4:57 left in the 1st quarter.

Metcalfe led Green County 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After the Hornets kicked off the Dragons got pushed back to the 8 yard line due to penalties.  The Dragons made a big mistake, Fumbling on the 8, leaving the Dragons defense out to dry. The Hornets would capitalize on the very next play. Handing it to their running back Gabe Zurmehly once again, and he took it 8 yards for his second touchdown. Hornets made the PAT to make it 21-0 Hornets in the 3rd quarter.

Green County got a very good chance to score right before half . Peyton Dial threw a interception and the Dragons took over on the 8, But the Hornets defense stood tall and did not let Green County score before halftime.

The Hornets have led every game this year at half by a touchdown or more. It was no different in this game either, Hornets led the Dragons 21-0 at half

The second half it took the Hornets a little bit to get going. Lots of punts, by both teams in the 3rd quarter, but  With 5:31 on the clock Gabe Zurmehly would get his third rushing touchdown of the night, on a 30 yard rush.

The Hornets would not let up on scoring. With 34 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter Peyton Dial threw it up to Wyatt Blythe and Blythe would go up and Moss the defender for the Hornets touchdown, to extend the Hornets lead 34-0.

Metcalfe led 34-0 at the end of 3

The Green County second team got the goose egg off the scoreboard for the Dragons. Freshman Jullian Seymour got to the outside and took it 90 yards for the Dragons touchdown.

Metcalfe went on to win 34-6

The Hornets continue district play next week as they welcome the BullDogs of Clinton to Edmonton Memorial park for the 7:00 kick.
