Metcalfe shut out Monroe County in the regular season beating them 32-0, on Friday Night the Hornets didn’t get the shut out but still downed the Falcons 34-6. The Hornets in their last four games have outscored their opponents 163-12.

The Falcons received the opening kick, and the Hornets defense got the quick turnover on downs and takeover on their own 41-yard line. Metcalfe would capitalize on the Falcons turnover, the Hornets would make it to the four-yard line and that is where Peyton Dial connected on a four-yard touchdown to Wyatt Blythe, to give the Hornets the quick 6-0 lead with 5:33 in the first quarter.

The Hornets have a tendency to recover kickoffs in the first quarter, well guess what? They did not disappoint this game either. The Hornets recovered their kickoff on their own 33. The Hornets would once again take advantage of The Falcons mistake, starting off the Hornets connected on a wide receiver to wide receiver pass, Wyatt Blythe connected to Mason Estes for the 32-yard gain, the Hornets got it on their one-yard line. Peyton Dial pitched it to Gabe Zurmehly for the easy 1-yard touchdown, that touchdown would give the Hornets the 14-0 lead with 4:44 in the first quarter. The Hornets led 14-0 at the end of one

The Falcons started off the second quarter showing some fight, quarterback John Harlin would find his receiver Jacob Wood for a 23-yard gain, which would set the Falcons up in great field position, the Falcons took it down to the one-yard line where they would hand it to fullback Bryce Baxter for the one-yard touchdown with 8:34 to go, the Hornets still led 14-6 in the second quarter. It would not take long for the Hornets to answer back, the following Hornet possession they drove it all the way down the field down to the one-yard line and would once again hand it to senior running back Gabe Zurmehly for the one-yard touchdown to extend the Hornets lead 20-6 with 5:34 in the second quarter.

The Falcons could not carry over their momentum from their previous touchdown. The Falcons went three and out and were forced to punt it back to the Hornets. A couple plays into the drive Peyton Dial would find Wyatt Blythe for a 33-yard gain. The ball would be spotted on the 3-yard line, the Hornets would once again give it to Gabe Zurmehly for the 3-yard touchdown, the touchdown would extend the lead to 27-6 with 1:00 to go in the second quarter. 27-6 would be the lead going into halftime. The Hornets have led at halftime in every game this year.

The Falcons defense coming out of halftime was still showing fight in them, holding the Hornets in the red zone to turnover on downs, but the Hornets defense once again locked the Falcons offense down, causing another three and out. The next Hornets offensive possession would take it down the field and punch it on a 7-yard touchdown by Gabe Zurmehly, to make the Hornet lead 34-6 with 3:22 to go in the third quarter. That would go on to be your final score, Metcalfe 34 Monroe 6.

The Hornets get the rematch they have been wanting this whole year with the Edmonson County Wildcats for the district three 2A title. Kickoff is at 7:00 at Edmonson County.
