Lady Dragons 65
Lady Spartans 61
After the two teams traded buckets to open the game, South Warren used an 10-0 run to advance themselves out to a 12-5 lead
midway through the first quarter. Deanna Taylor had four of those eight points for the Lady Spartans. South eventually pushed that
lead out to 20-14 when Warren Central responded with a 10-0 run of their own driven by Tia Barnett. Barnett hit a three from the wing
followed by one from the corner. That corner three set up a head fake move to drive baseline for a layup to account for eight of the
ten points in that run.
South responded with two three point plays, one from Caroline Cowles off of a feed from Timitryi Patterson and one from Amaya Lasley, to tie the score back up at 26. After Central regained a five point advantage, Timitryi Patterson grabbed an offensive board and putbackto trim the halftime lead to 33-30.
Out of the break, Central continued it’s momentum with a 10-4 run capped by Barnett’s fourth three-pointer of the contest. South responded. The Lady Spartans trimmed the lead to 50-45 with a few buckets down low from Cowles and a deep-ball from Colby Downing.
In a game of runs, Central was next up. Taylor Jones hit a pair of threes to extend the lead back out to nine.
In the fourth quarter, Lasley began to attack the basket for South Warren and get opportunities at the free throw stripe, nine of her 21 points came at the line.
The Lady Spartans continued to cut into the lead and, down 63-61, turned the Lady Dragons over at half-court with 9.4 seconds to play. South inbounded the ball at the top of the court to Lasley and she drove, missed her first shot, got the rebound and missed
the putback. Central’s Zakoria Hill sank two free throws to put the Lady Dragons up two possessions for good.
