Lady Gators Win Streak Ends at 46, But Unbeaten Streak Continues

Defense2The defending state champion Greenwood Lady Gators tied the Male High School Bulldogs 3-3 in the opening game of the Big M Chevrolet tournament Friday  night, in a time-shortened 6 inning affair.
The Gators trailed for a majority of the game, following a three-run homerun by Male’s Amanda McIver with just one out in the first inning, and didn’t get their first run until the top of the 4th, when left-fielder Aly Parsons tripled down the first base line to score Alexis Dean.
In the top of the 6th, Rachel Miller doubled up the middle, which scored Parsons and third baseman Katelin Smith, to tie the game, and a 0-run bottom of the 6th would leave the game in a tie.
Male pitcher Jessica Wireman was dealing, as she struck out seven Lady Gator hitters, including four of her first six outs coming via the strikeout.
The tie ends GHS’ 46 game winning streak, but their unbeaten streak got extended to 47 games.
The Lady Gators will play two games tomorrow and if they are victorious, will move on to bracket-play in Elizabethtown.
The first game will start at 7 CT against Western Hills, with the second game coming against Madisonville-North Hopkins around 10 CT. Both of those games, and all of the games tomorrow can be heard right here on GoGatorsNation.com
