Seeking their 8th consecutive District title, the Lady Purples took on South Warren for the third time this season. The last time these teams met, Amaya Lasley nailed a three pointer to steal victory away from the Bowling Green. It would come down to the wire again on Friday night.
The Lady Purples were able to force some early turnovers with the 3-2 halfcourt defense, leading to some quick points in transition. Even after another buzzer beating three from Lasley, Bowling Green led after the first 15-11. South Warren fought back in the second quarter, but Bowling Green would use a 10-2 run late in the period to extend their lead heading into the half, 33-27. We would trade baskets in the third, neither team able to put together consecutive baskets. But the Lady Spartans got the final basket of the quarter, drawing them closer to the Lady Purples 47-42. South Warren would get within one point on several occasions, including in the final minute of play, but Bowling Green would make free throws late, and hold on to victory 60-57! Oneisha Turner went 10-11 from the free throw line en route to 17 points.
We await the draw tomorrow morning to see who the Lady Purples will play, but you can catch Bowling Green’s run through the Region on PurplesNation.com!
