SCOTTSVILLE – Glasgow knew exactly what was on the line.
Taking on District 15 rival Allen County-Scottsville Monday in a pivotal matchup with district tournament implications on the line, the Lady Scotties were granted their wish – defeating ACS 41-39 at Patriot Gym to claim the top seed in the upcoming District 15 Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
With Glasgow’s win, head coach Justin Stinson earned his 200th career win.
“It’s always important to be the one (seed),” Stinson said. “It’s always important to be the one in a district that’s so competitive like ours. That’s huge. We’ve got three teams that are most likely gonna win 20 games apiece in this district, and probably three of the top four or five teams in the region. It was important for us to get that one seed.”
Glasgow (16-7, 5-1) had to battle with Allen County-Scottsville from start to finish but made big defensive plays down the stretch to come out on top. The Lady Scotties led 12-8 after the opening quarter and extended their lead to 23-14 at halftime.
ACS battled back in the third quarter to cut its deficit to just 31-30 entering the fourth and had a chance to win with Mason Towery’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer, but it fell short and Glasgow’s big 3 from Dynasti Page with 36 seconds left proved to be the game-winner.
“I’m really excited I hit my 3s because lately I haven’t been doing much at all,” Page said. “I’m glad I stepped up and I showed them that I can be a really good player and that I can just step up for them and do what I needed to do.”
Page made five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Scotties, while Ashanti Gore joined her in double figures with 12 points and KJ Hughes tallied 8. GHS shot 17-of-37 (45.9 percent) from the field and 41.7% from three-point territory.
Taylor Carter led Allen County-Scottsville (17-6, 3-3) with 11 points, while Mason Towery scored nine and Jae McReynolds added eight. Sarah Sutton – who averages 22.8 points per game – was held by the Glasgow defense – led by Kayla Bradley – to 6 points on 2-of-8 shooting.
“Our kids bought in – and we’ve got some good defenders,” Stinson said. “Kayla Bradley is a kid for us that’s been an unsung hero. She’s hard to take off the floor. She doesn’t always score a lot of points – she can – but man, you can’t take her off the court. She’s playing 32 minutes tonight and chasing around Sutton some and Towery some and just making it difficult for ‘em.
“That’s been a recipe for us all year to defend and rebound.”
The two sides exchanged scores throughout the first quarter as neither team held a lead larger than two points. Allen County-Scottsville led 6-4 at the 1:57 mark before Page knocked down her first two 3s on back-to-back possessions to put Glasgow back in front entering the second.
The Lady Scotties turned up their play in the ensuing frame, outscoring ACS 13-6 to build a near-double-digit advantage. After McReynolds scored to put the Lady Patriots up 14-12 at the 3:26 mark, Glasgow scored five quick points – highlighted by Page’s 3 – to take a 19-12 lead.
“After I hit two I started to warm up and was kind of feeling myself,” Page said. “I kept shooting it.”
Gore closed the half with six straight points to give the Lady Scotties much momentum at the break.
ACS didn’t give up in the second half but instead fought back.
Opening the third quarter with a 6-0 run, the Lady Patriots quickly cut their deficit to 23-20 at the 6:50 mark. Glasgow retook the lead with a bucket from Hughes, but ACS answered with a bucket on the other end to jump back in front.
Hughes’ basket with just 52.4 seconds left in the quarter put the Lady Scotties up 31-30 going into the final frame.
Glasgow led 38-34 after Amanda Lee’s bucket before Towery made a big 3 to bring ACS within 38-37 with 2:36 remaining. Sutton’s score with 1:46 left put the Lady Patriots up 39-38, but Page answered with her triple on the other end to put the Lady Scotties in front and win it for her squad.
“That was huge. That was the biggest one,” said Stinson of Page’s shot.
Glasgow returns to action Tuesday as it hosts Metcalfe County at 6 p.m. Allen County-Scottsville will look to bounce back Thursday on the road at Metcalfe County. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Glasgow boys roll past ACS
Behind three different players finishing in double figures, the Glasgow boys’ basketball team shot 51.9 percent from the field and rolled to a 70-49 win over Allen County-Scottsville on Monday night at Patriot Gym.
The Scotties (16-9, 4-2 District 15) – who have now won four of their last five games – led 12-8 after the opening quarter and 29-21 at halftime but controlled the second half to earn the dominant victory. 
With Glasgow’s win, it’ll now flip a coin with Allen County-Scottsville (18-6, 4-2) to determine the top seed in the upcoming District 15 Tournament.
“(We) come in here and play so great and now we’ve got the chance to pull (out of) the bottle. I guess we hope that the No. 1 (seed) is in there,” Glasgow head coach James Willett said. “At the end of the day, it’s still going to be a tough matchup in the first round of the district for us, no matter who it is. I’m happy that we’re playing well at the right time.”
Nik Sorrell made four 3-pointers and led the Scotties with a game-high 22 points, while Robert Kingery registered a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Along with that duo, Tayshaun Bradley added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Jax Cooper carried ACS with 20 points, while Brett Rippy tallied 11.
“It was a big win,” Kingery said. “They beat us earlier in the season, and we just wanted to come out here and show them that we wanted the No. 1 spot just as much as they do. We just wanted to win so we can try and get that No. 1 spot. We just played together as a team and made that happen.”
Both teams return to action Tuesday as Glasgow hosts Metcalfe County and Allen County-Scottsville travels to Edmonson County. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
