Lady Spartans Fast Start Put Them in 14th District Final

_MG_5388The Lady Spartans and Lady Dragons tipped off in second round action looking to move on to face Bowling Green in the tournament finale on Friday night. South Warren jumped out to a 21-8 lead behind hot shooting of Amaya Lasley and Colby Downing before Warren Central used a 6-0 run to pull within double digits at the quarter break. From there on, the Lady Spartans controlled the pace as the Lady Dragons lost the services of Noochie Patterson and Tia Barnett due to foul trouble. Lasley and Timitryi Patterson came away with steal after steal in the backcourt leading to fast break buckets. The Spartans led 37-18 at the half.

South Warren started off the second half in similar fashion behind a quick three-ball from Colby Downing. Warren Central lowered the deficit to 14 with three minutes left in the third. After a Central timeout, the Lady Spartans used an Amaya Lasley three-ball and a TImitryi Patterson fast break layup to regain a 17 point advantage. Tia Barnett single handedly drew the Lady Dragons back wihin single digits with a layup and long ball of her own in the opening minutes of the fourth.

with 5:12 left in the contest, Tia Barnett cut the Lady Spartan lead to 5 at 47-42. Colby downing scored 10 points on a 14-3 run to push it out to 61-45 with under three minutes left in the game. The margin would not dip below double digits for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Spartans beat Warren Central 67-52. South Warren advances to the District 14 final Friday night at 7 pm.
