In the early going, it was South Warren’s defense that was much more on display than the offense. A 10-8 game after the first period, the Lady Spartans missed their first five three pointers before Timitryi Patterson hit mid-way through the second period. She had a terrific first half, finishing with 9 points over the first 16 minutes of play. Colby Downing also added a three ball later in the half. For Logan County, it was the sophomore Brooke Barnes using her height with Caroline Cowles on the bench to score 6 to lead the Lady Cougars. It was 21-15 at the half and certainly anybody’s ballgame.
In the third period, South Warren opened it up offensively as Blane Embry’s team was ready for the big stage at ACS and extended their lead to 41-29 entering the final stanza of play. The Lady Spartans, paced by 19 from Player of the Game Amaya Lasley and 18 from Timitryi Patterson, were just too much for the Lady Cougars. However, Logan County, who trailed 51-31 midway through the final period, cut the lead to ten before two of their stars fouled out of the ballgame trying to preserve clock time. South Warren wins it 58-48 and controlled things pretty convincingly after last trailing 15-13 and ending the first half on an 8-0 run. Up next, a rematch with Glasgow for a chance at a Regional Final appearance. We’ll have every dribble for you gospartannation.com.
