Logan County and Russellville will continue their historic rivalry Friday night when the two meet in the Linton-Wren Kickoff Classic at Russellville High School.
The Panthers lead the all-time series 13-6 dating back to 1998 and have won the last five meetings over the Cougars. In last season’s edition, Russellville won 54-14 as then-senior quarterback Jaylyn McMurry threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns while three different Panther running backs recorded scores.
When the two sides met in 2016, Russellville was 3-0 while Logan County was the exact opposite. Circumstances are a bit different this time around, as the Cougars are 3-0 and the Panthers are 2-1.
Logan County, which is 3-0 for the first time since 1998, is coming off a 38-0 win at Breckinridge County last Saturday. Quarterback Tyler Ezell completed 18-of-25 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 20 yards and a score.
Russellville enters Friday’s contest after a 43-0 victory at Butler County, a game in which quarterback Jacob Naylor threw for 54 yards and a touchdown and four different running backs each found the back of the end zone.
The Panthers are ranked No. 7 in Class A in the latest Kentucky Associated Press poll while Logan County received 23 votes in 4A.
