A Lot Riding on Battles in the Bluegrass III Match-up of District Rivals

There is a saying that goes “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog”

Many teams from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky range in size from 45 players per team to over 100, in the case of Bowling Green High and others.

The Metcalfe County Hornets for years have had teams well below the average, and this year’s team is no different. In fact, this year the Hornets have less players then in years past, but that has not stopped them from having one of their best seasons since 2007.

Metcalfe County will dress for their Battles in the Bluegrass just 20 players. All 20 players will see action Friday night. Most of the players play both offense and defense and special teams. The (5-2) Hornets are on a mission to win against Green County which would insure them their first home field playoff game since 2007.
Metcalf County’s Head Coach LJ Harbison makes no excuses for how many kids he has on their team. “We work hard every day so that on Friday nights we are ready to go”.

Senior QB Jake Dial could be the first player in Hornet history to rush and pass for a 1,000 yards in a signal season. Like Jake, other players do more with less because they have to. Playing four quarters both ways on offense and defense may tire some teams out, but for the Hornets, they seem to just get stronger. Their defense has caused 16 turnovers in 8 games which is a high percentage to say the least.

Despite the (1-6) record the Green County Hornets have had some close games losing to Russell County by one in their opener. The young Hornets with just seven seniors will look to play upset Friday night denying Metcalfe County their chance to host a playoff game.

This district match-up has always been a tough battle regardless of each team’s record.
The Dragons are a running first team that likes to pound the ball on the ground against their opponents. The Dragons have the luxury of having multiple running backs at their deposal, with junior QB Andrew Mosby leading the way with over 250 yards rushing this season.

The Dragon defense has caused 10 turnovers this season so far and will be fired up to play this district rivalry.
Battles in the Bluegrass III will not disappoint. There is plenty on the line and should be a great game tonight at Hornet field.
