Mark Brown Returns to Coaching Leads Panthers Program

CH FB practice 116After retiring a year ago, former John Hardin Coach Mark Brown will once again will pace the sidelines as the new Elizabethtown Panther football coach. Coach Brown replaces Adam Billings who is leaving to coach the varsity offensive line and coach the JV team at St. Xavier.

Brown has coached football for 36 years, 32 years as a head coach. He is 13th on the KHSAA wins list of football coaches in Kentucky, with a record of 272-121, including 116-34 at John Hardin.

With a state championship and multiple championship appearances under his belt, Brown will be tasked to developing his program at an Independent school, which has struggled to fill roster positions with upper classmen.

Coach Billings worked diligently over the last 3 years to build more interest and more consistency into the football program at Elizabethtown, leading the Panthers to a playoff game last season.

The Panthers finished 6-5 last year and solidified the program with nearly 70 players expected to dress for varsity this season. Billings focused on conditioning, preparation and continual improvement, all evident by the success of the program last year.

Brown intends on using his patented modified “Wing T” offense which requires execution, deception and speed. On the defensive side of the ball, Brown will need to evaluate the Panther defense to see if the personnel package can support his “contain and pursue” style of defense.

With 7 on 7 competitions right around the corner, it’s only a matter of weeks that Brown and his staff have to prepare the team for significant changes to Panther football. There’s no reason to expect anything less than the excellence Mark Brown has developed at every coaching juncture.
