Marvelous Moore!
It was a simple JV high school football game played at Ray Story Stadium in October and during the lengthly halftime, there was Eric Moore warming up his arm during the break, flinging 60-yard passes to a fellow varsity player from one end of the field started from about the his own 40-yard line into the end zone with just the flick of his wrist. While he was doing that, the officials working the football game were taking a break and marveling at Moore’s range.
On Friday Night’s, it was our time to marvel at his talents.
When Eric Moore took the field for the North Hardin Trojans second-round playoff game against Male, he took a quick look around the field as he was trying to drink in the moment. It may have taken just a second, but it was a quick reflection on how far he had come in two seasons.
First there was the super sophomore season in which he came out of nowhere when the Trojans starting quarterback Isaiah Bankhead was hurt in the game and Moore was forced to come in a general the Trojans against Elizabethtown in 2016. Although he may have been a little rusty (he threw a pick-six that lengthened the Panthers lead to 12-0, the sophomore settled down and helped lead North Hardin to a 27-12 win. That was just the beginning as it was the Trojans fourth straight win and although North Hardin would eventually fall to 6-5 and a first round loss to Eastern, Moore had established himself the Trojans next great quarterback with Bankhead graduating as he threw for 850-yards and 10-TDs.
The following year nothing went right as the Trojans struggled to just 3-wins and were able to score a single touchdown in seven games. The reasons were many for the decline, but Moore knew the things he had to work on during the offseason and he put his mind to have the best season in recent years (even if nobody would believe it).
Moore had always had a nice touch on long passes and he had a monster season in 2018, which would be his senior season as the Trojan offense put together off the chart numbers scoring over 30-points in six games and with the help of a superior running game, a huge offensive line and a defense which blocked out the sun allowing only 164-points in twelve games and just one touchdown in five games, the Trojans put together nine wins in a 9-3 season that surprised everyone. Moore was superb throwing for over 2,000-yards and 26-TDs and only 5-to the other side. Moore was also a duo threat as a runner and that made North Hardin twice as dangerous as the North Hardin Trojans were an unstoppable machine going into mid November.
Both Eric and younger brother Josh had a superb season hooking up for 66 passes for 1,224-yards and 15 touchdowns most in the long range variety. The two had a marvelous connection that terrorized opposing defensive backs and defensive coordinators.
Just as important was the fact that Moore’s receivers made incredible catches for him as several laid out on many plays as everyone was in for the cause and making the Trojans a better team.
It was truly a dream season, but looking at Eric Moore you’d think everything came easy.
He’s such a physical specimen that he excells at basketball and is adapt at baseball as well, which he currently plays for the Trojans baseball team.
Still, football is the sport he will play at the next level at Georgetown university and after that—well who knows. Whatever he does, Moore should fit right in just as he did on the Football field.
So come next August when you visit Georgetown university’s football stadium for a home game and you see Moore on the football field just remember what you heard here as he will continue to surprise and impress everyone just like he did at Ray Story Stadium on Friday nights doing it the same way, but in a different uniform.
