Landree Moons named 16th District Player of the Year

Named the Sporting Times’ 16th District Player of the Year, Braylee Mann led the district in scoring at 17.1 points per game and was one of the district’s top rebounders at 9.7 rebounds per game. The junior scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the district semifinals as the Lady Bulldogs eclipsed Monroe County in overtime, 48-45.
Anna Blythe, Metcalfe County Junior
Anna Blythe was the Lady Hornets’ second-leading scorer (9.8) and leading rebounder (7.0) in a season that saw the 16th District champions win 20 games in consecutive seasons. Her seven rebounds per game ranked second behind only Landree Moons of Clinton County in the 16th District.
Madi Cooksey, Cumberland County Eighth Grader
Madi Cooksey led the Lady Panthers in both scoring and rebounding this season as the program won more than 20 games for the first time since 2008. The eighth grader was a major reason for the team’s turnaround after going 14-14 last season but 0-30 as recently as 2018. In a 36-32 win over Russell County, Cooksey scored a game-high 14 points as Cumberland County won its first district tournament game since 2015.
Paisley Ford, Monroe County Senior
Paisley Ford ended her illustrious career at Monroe County averaging 13.4 points per game on 41% shooting from the field. The senior also shot 83% from the free throw line. After helping the Lady Falcons win the 4th Region All-A Classic, Ford led the team in scoring in the state event with 17 points as Monroe fell to Hancock County in the opening round.
Aubrey Jolly, Metcalfe County Freshman
Starting as a freshman, Aubrey Jolly averaged 9.2 points per game on 41% shooting and hit 45 three-pointers. In the region quarterfinals, she scored a game-high 15 points as the Lady Hornets eked out a 56-55 victory over Logan County in overtime. Jolly hit three three-pointers as Metcalfe County won a game in the 4th Region Tournament for a second-straight season.
Kassady London, Metcalfe County Sophomore
Kassady London was instrumental to the success of the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets’ third-consecutive district championship. The sophomore led the club in scoring at 15.4 points per game and shot 39% from the field and 35% from three with 59 made three-pointers. With a trip to the district championship game on the line, London scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Lady Hornets beat Cumberland County, 68-59.
Gracie Veach, Monroe County
Gracie Veach helped lead the Lady Falcons back into the 16th District after a lengthy run in the 15th. In her final season, the senior averaged 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Veach also shot 45% from the field, 41% from beyond the arc, and 86% from the charity stripe.
