Pedigo’s big night leads Barren County past Warren East

Behind a game-high 27 points from Bailey Pedigo, the Barren County girls’ basketball team won its third straight game – and the seventh of its last eight – with a 52-30 win Tuesday at Warren East.

The Trojanettes (12-5 overall, 7-1 Region 4) found themselves in a tight, back-and-forth affair with the Lady Raiders early, but were then able to find their usual rhythm over the course of the next three quarters to build a large lead and put East (9-9, 6-7) away.

“Bailey Pedigo stepped up tonight,” Barren County coach Piper Lindsey said. “She’s one that’s played all year and doesn’t get much credit. I think that this was big for her to finally get a little recognition. I think she just does all the little things right.”

Barren County shot 51 percent from the field, forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded Warren East 26-20. Along with Pedigo’s big outing – which also included nine rebounds, six steals and four assists – Jalynn Bush added eight points.

The two sides exchanged baskets early, as Barren County held a slim 4-2 lead at the 3:57 mark of the first quarter. After one, the Trojanettes’ lead was still at just two points with the scoreboard reading 10-8.

Barren County went on to outscore Warren East 16-7 in the second and took a 26-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime. At the break, Pedigo had 13 points to lead all scorers.

The Trojanettes shot 48 percent from the field in the opening half compared the East’s 35 percent showing. Barren County outrebounded the Lady Raiders 13-11 and forced 13 turnovers, turning those into seven points on the other end of the court.

Barren pushed its lead to 35-19 with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter after a basket by Pedigo. A pair of free throws by her put the Trojanettes up 41-19 entering the fourth and gave her 22 points on the evening.

Leading by a comfortable margin, Barren County was able to cruise through the final period en route to a nice road victory.
