Girls Soccer Power Rankings

  1. Bowling Green 11-2-1

Outlook: Bowling Green enters the season’s homestretch looking to clinch the top seed in the 14th District Tournament scheduled for early October. Sophomore Reagan Wheeler led the team in both goals (11) and assists (7) entering the week. Coach Lisa Correa recorded her 400th career win last week,  a testament to her teams’ consistency on the pitch over the years. A showdown with archrival Greenwood looms on Thursday at The Pit.

Next Up: Greenwood (Thursday), at South Warren (Tuesday)

  1. South Warren 7-2-5

Outlook: Might 2024 be the year of breakthrough for South Warren? The Lady Spartans have failed to reach the 4th Region Tournament since joining Bowling Green and Greenwood in the 14th District in 2012. This season might be a different story. For starters, South upended the Lady Gators at The Swamp in late August to secure its first-ever victory over the Green and Gold. Cora Kincaid (12) and Elda Mustafic (10) have hit double digits in their goal tallies, while Addison Boor leads the team with nine assists.

Next Up: Logan County (Thursday), vs. North Hardin & North Laurel (Saturday at Central Hardin), Bowling Green (Tuesday)

  1. Greenwood 5-2-5

Outlook: Greenwood’s will enter the 14th District Tournament as the five-time defending champions. The Lady Gators are led by senior Reagan Hynson’s 11 goals and 8 assists. Meanwhile Caroline Drexel has split time between the outfield and goalkeeper. The versatile junior has tallied nine goals in the field, while making 59 saves at goalkeeper. Thursday’s showdown with Bowling Green will give us a clearer picture of where the Lady Gators stack up in the hierarchy of the 4th Region.

Next Up: at Bowling Green (Thursday), Owensboro (Saturday), South Warren (Tuesday)

  1. Warren East 10-0-2

Outlook: Warren East has reached the 4th Region in each of the last two seasons and will look to make it three in a row next month. The Lady Raiders have been dominant against district competition, picking up six wins in six tries. Senior Deca Burr has lit up her opponents, scoring 32 goals in twelve matches. In her first matchup with fellow scoring ace Gabby Garcia of ACS, Burr notched a season-best six goals in the match. The two goal machines will go head-to-head again Thursday in Scottsville.

Next Up: at Allen County-Scottsville (Thursday), at Green County (Saturday)

  1. Russell County 8-2-1

Outlook: After a twelve-year hiatus from the pitch, the Russell County soccer program is starting to take off and has cracked our power five for the first time. The Lady Lakers have gradually improved each season since their return in 2020. A district title in 2022 was followed by a winning season + a district championship in 2023. In 2024, Cheryl Newby’s group will look to add a region tournament victory notch to their belts. Led by Addison Coffey, Russell County is second in the region in goals scored and third in goals allowed. The freshman Coffey has scored 35 goals and is ranked third in this statistic across the state of Kentucky. Junior Madison Weisbrodt’s 17 assists rank fifth statewide.
