Purples Advance to D14 Final

By: Joe Brunk

The Purples began their District Title defense on Thursday night, taking on South Warren on their home floor. Due to the extreme weather from last week, this is the first time the Purples have seen the court in almost two weeks. Would rust be a factor?

Points would go back and forth in the first quarter, both teams claiming early leads. A late tip in by Hicks brought the Spartans within two at the end of the period 18-16. But the Purples would control the second quarter, sparked by Deangelo Wilson, who knocked down two from beyond the arc as the Purples went on a twelve point run to end the half. We went into the break leading 45-25.

As the Spartans felt the game slipping away in the third quarter, Coach Breeze went to his bench to give his seniors some significant minutes, and they responded with a 14-4 run to close out the third quarter, but the Purples still led by 19 heading into the final period. Bowling Green would outpace the Spartans 23-7 in the final period, as the Purples cruise to victory 91-56. Six Purples scored in double figures, led by Tucker Sine’s 15. Terry Taylor an Deangelo Wilson had 14, Perry Ayers was right behind them with 13, Kyran Jones posted 12, and Malik Carothers notched 11 in the scorebook.

The Purples will face Warren Central for the third time this season on Saturday night, with the District title on the line! Who will take the advantage in the season series? Join us on PurplesNation.com to find out!
