Purples claim the Quarter Quell victory 17-14

After falling on the road to a talented St X team, the Purples came home to open up the El.  They welcomed the number one team in 5A, and major rival in Owensboro.  The Red Devils hold the advantage in the overall series, but Bowling Green had secured victories in the last seven games leading up to their 75th meeting
All seemed well for the Purples at the beginning of the game, as the Purples took three and a half minutes on a very nice drive that resulted in a 17 yard run for Jamele Carothers.  The Purples D got in the scoring games as well, as Jake Bush picked off the QB and ran it back for six.  But after that we would go quite some time with neither team scoring, and the first quarter ended 14-0 Bowling Green.  A late TD pass from Gross to Barrett brought the Red Devils within a score, but Tre Fant would answer with a huge kickoff return, setting up a Lee Ramsey field goal.  At the break, Purples led 17-7.
Turnovers would be the name of the game in the second half, as both teams turned it over on their opening drives.  Owensboro would find their offensive footing first, and Gross would carry it in himself from one yard out to bring the Red Devils within three.  Owensboro would have a few more drives to try to take the lead, but Griffin Cline would claim 2 INTs in the fourth period to help the Purples claim the Quarter Quell victory 17-14.
The Warren Central Dragons, who earned their first victory this week, come to the El next Friday night?  Can the Purples start a new winning streak?  Tune in next week to find out!
