After some key region matchups in the past few weeks, Bowling Green would step outside the area on Tuesday night, hosting Christian County for a double header. While the Lady Purples hadn’t ran into Christian County this year, the Purples would be looking for revenge, and Christian County beat Bowling Green in the championship game of the Meijer Holiday Classic.
The Lady Purples hopped out on top early, with a three point barrage in the first half. Heavyn Gray would put up eight in the opening act, and BG would lead 36-14 at the break. Christian County would outscore BG in the third quarter, but the outcome of this game was never in doubt. The Lady Purples would go on an eleven point run in the fourth quarter, and would cruise to a 74-39 victory. Heavyn Gray paced the Lady Purples with 15 points. Oneisha Turner had 11, and TaMia Matthews also reached double figures with 10.
Christian County would get the jump on BG in the guy’s game, scoring the first couple of baskets. The Purples would fight back, but could never take the lead in the first quarter, trailing 14-16. But about mid way through the second quarter, with the Purples trailing by 4, Bowling Green would go on a 17 point run to close out the half. They went into the locker room up 35-22. The Zone D had great effect on Tyrik Edwards in the first half, holding a player who went for 39 earlier in the season to two points in the first half. Christian County would make come back in the second half, outscoring Bowling Green in both the third and fourth quarters. But Bowling Green would make enough free throws late to get the win 64-60. Terry Taylor led the way with 14. Malik Carothers and Deangelo Wilson finished in double figures with 11 each.
