Purples fall to Dragons in OT.

By Joe Brunk (PurplesNation.com):

As we near the midseason mark, Bowling Green traveled cross-town for a district doubleheader with possible huge implications toward the postseason.

The Purples really struggled with Warren Central’s size to start the game as well, but brought it back to a two point game at the end of the first quarter. The Central went on an eight point run to take their lead out to double figures. Bowling Green would answer back with an eight point run of their own, but missed some opportunities at the free throw line to claim their first lead from the Dragons. A three pointer from Jared Savage in the closing seconds put Warren Central up 29-25 at the break. Bowling Green kept knocking on the door in the second half, but the Dragons were able to keep BG at arm’s length for the entire game. With a minute to go, the Purples trailed by six. And just like last week, Bowling Green makes a valiant comeback, and a Logan Riehn layup as time expires sends the game into overtime. Unfortunately for the Purples, Kobe Caldwell was just too much down the stretch, scoring seven in the overtime period. Purples fall in OT 58-64. Tucker Sine led the Purples with 15, all from beyond the arc. Terry Taylor had 14.

Lady Purples Defeat Lady Dragons

After losing their 60 game district win streak to South Warren a few weeks ago, the Lady Purples have been on a roll, and are looking to send a message they are still a team to fear come tourney time. Meanwhile, the Purples faced a team who has recently found an offensive rhythm to go with their defensive strength, with bragging rights on the line.

In the first quarter, the Lady Purples struggled with Warren Central’s size inside. Points were hard to come by for either team, and BG trailed 6-11. But the Lady Purples would rally in the second, starting the period with an 11-1 run. Bowling Green led by as much as five in the second, but Warren Central fought back, scoring five in a row to tie things up in the final minute. TaMia Matthews would get one final basket in the half, and Bowling Green would lead heading into the break 19-17. Points again at a premium in the third quarter, and Warren Central was able to tie it up heading into the fourth at 27. The Lady Purples would score the first four points of the final quarter to take the lead, and would hold on till the final buzzer to win 44-40. TaMia Matthews led the way with 13 points. Oneisha Turner finished with 10.
