Purples Fall to Owensboro

Joe Brunk:

As we inch closer and closer to the district tournament, Bowling Green stepped out of region play to host Owensboro on Tuesday night. While the Lady Purples would have no trouble handling the Lady Devils, the Purples were out for revenge, as Bowling Green to Owensboro at the beginning of 2015.

The Lady Purples came out a little sluggish in the first quarter, but used a nine point run to get some separation from Owensboro. Bowling Green would continue to pour it on throughout the game, as they forced 41 turnovers in the contest, and cruised to victory 73-30. TaMia Matthews would lead the Lady Purples with 13.

Shots were falling early for the Purples in the first quarter, and a lob pass to Dane Drobocky in the closing seconds had Bowling Green up 18-15 after 1. It would be back and forth throughout the second quarter, but BG held on to the lead at the break 33-31. The Red Devils would storm back in the third, taking the lead from the Purples and didn’t look back. Bowling Green would trim it down to a one point game late in the fourth, but Owensboro would keep the Purples at bay, and a last second heave from Tucker Sine goes wide left. Purples fall to Owensboro 66-69. Kyran Jones paced the Purples with 21 points.

Staying in town on Friday night for our final district game of the season, as we head out to Warren East. The doubleheader starts at 6, and you can catch it all right here on PurplesNation.com!
