Purples Late Game Heroics Fall Short, Season Ends in Final Four

KC9A4438Heading into the nightcap on Saturday night, both Bowling Green and Covington Catholic had a flair for winning games late while at Rupp Arena.  But the Colonels had other plans.
At the start of the game, the Purples looked poised to go blow for blow with the Northern Kentucky squad, but the Covington Catholic went on an eleven point run to end the first quarter to double up the Purples 22-11.  They continued their hot shooting into the second quarter, and continued to build their lead against BG, up 44-25 at the break.  Bowling Green was able to keep pace with the Colonels in the third quarter, but were still down big with 4 minutes left in the game.  A late game surge spearheaded by Nacarius Fant brought the Purples to as close as 6 in the final minute and a half, but Covington Catholic was able to knock down free throws late to seal the win 81-68.  Nacarius Fant led the Purples with 31 points in his final game on the hardwood.
