Purples look to continue rebounding, Dragons seek first win

Bowling Green looks to continue rebounding from a 1-2 start by hosting Warren Central on Friday evening.

The Purples (2-2) won their opener against North Hardin before dropping a pair of games to Pleasure Ridge Park and St. Xavier. Bowling Green topped Owensboro 48-21 at home a week ago.

The Dragons have not beaten the Purples since 2010, edging Bowling Green 17-14 at home.

Here are a couple of quick hits and players to watch for both teams:

Bowling Green:

Despite the start that they had, the Purples still have all of the weapons necessary to contend for another 5A state title. The Bowling Green offense is led by junior quarterback Beau Buchanan, who has completed 67-of-114 passes for 704 yards and four touchdowns on the season.

In the backfield with Buchanan is sophomore running back Vito Tisdale, who leads the Purples on the ground with 229 rushing yards and six touchdown rushes on the season.

Bowling Green’s electrifying duo of Ziyon Kenner and Nash Hightower at receivers has given opposing defenses fits all throughout the season. Kenner has caught 26 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns while Hightower has hauled in 13 catches for 141 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Georgia Tech commit Justice Dingle leads the Purples with 40 tackles while Devan Jackson has risen up to follow with 36 tackles.

Players to Watch:

  • QB Beau Buchanan – 704 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns
  • RB Vito Tisdale – 229 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns
  • WR Ziyon Kenner – 318 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns
  • LB Justice Dingle – 40 tackles

Warren Central:

The Dragons are still seeking their first win on the season, but that does not mean that they don’t have any playmakers that pose a threat.

Running back DJ Tyner leads the Central offense with 419 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground on 73 carries. Wide receiver Kaleb Metcalfe has hauled in eight catches for 119 yards on the season.

Marlon Scott-Coleman leads the Dragons (0-4) on defense with 35 tackles while KJ Alexander has tallied 23.Warren Central

Even though Warren Central has yet to find significant success on either side of the ball, special teams are definitely the difference for the Dragons among observing their punt coverage against South Warren in the Citizens First Bowl.

Players to Watch:

  • RB DJ Tyner – 419 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns
  • WR Kaleb Metcalfe – 119 receiving yards
  • LB Marlon Scott-Coleman – 35 tackles
