With Fall Break on the horizon, Bowling Green took the Monie Beard field on Thursday night to open up district play, facing Grayson County. This Cougar squad is clearly in rebuilding mode, bringing up many freshman to fill out the roster. Many expected the Purples to control this game from the get-go, and they did not disappoint.
After Grayson County punted to end their first drive, the BG offense went to work, as Clark Payne found Jamale Carothers for the 18 yard score. Penalties on the defense kept the Purples offense off the field for most of the first quarter, but Payne would find paydirt again to close the opening act, this time finding DeAngelo Wilson for a 65 yard score. Trey Fant would start the second quarter with a punt return for a touchdown. Beau Buchanan stepped out with the starting offense and notched a 14 yard pass to Wilson for the score. A couple of plays later, Fant would strike again, picking off the Cougar QB and taking it back all the way for six. Payne didn’t want to finish his night in the first half, so he came back out and found Fant for the 24 yard touchdown pass, and then Wilson took the ball from the QB position and ran it 49 yards for the final score of the half. After a 35 point quarter, the Purples lead 49-0 at the break.
Buchanan ran the Purple offense in the second half, and unleashed a 50 yard pass to Nash Hightower for the final BG touchdown of the night. Grayson County would score twice in the closing minutes, but Bowling Green cruises to victory 56-13.
After a week off for fall break, the Purples welcome Coach Grif back to the El, as Barren County comes to town. Join us for all the action on SportingTimesMagazine.com!
