Purples Push Through First Half Woes to District Title

With two 7-1 teams meeting in The Swamp competing for the District title, you know it was gonna be a fight to the finish.  Greenwood certainly made their presence known in the early going.
The Purples won the toss, and gave the first possession to Greenwood.  The Gators would drive 80 yards, taking over six minutes off the clock, and punching it in with a one yard TD run by quarterback Jackson Adams.  The Purples would answer back with a three minute drive of their own, capped by a three yard score by Jamale Carothers.  But the Gators would not be deterred, and their run game was solid in the first half.  Another seven minute drive from Greenwood ended with another touchdown for Adams.  Bowling Green kept pace though, as the Purples drove again, this time scoring on a pass from Clark Payne to Jacob Yates.  Gators were forced to punt on the next drive, but the Purples gave the ball back two plays later.  Greenwood was set up near the read zone with two minutes to go, but could not convert any points, and we head to the locker room tied at 14.
Who knows what is said in a locker room at the half?  Whatever Coach Wallace and his staff said, it resonated with the Purples, as they took off in the second half.  BG scored on the first drive with a pass from Payne to DeAngelo Wilson.  Then the Purples D stood strong, and held the Adams led run attack in check.  Bowling Green would keep running the ball well, as Carothers ran it in from 30 yards out for his second score, giving the Purples a two score lead.  Bowling Green would keep the Gators out of the end zone for the rest of the game, as Carothers, Payne and Yates would add more scores to their totals, allowing the Purples to pull away in the fourth.  Final score – Bowling Green 49, Greenwood 14.  Carothers had 122 yards and 3 scores, Payne had 162 yards and 3 TDs, and DeAngelo Wilson led the receivers with 99 yards and 2 touchdowns.
