After winning on the road at ACS on Monday night, the Purples came back home to host Muhlenberg County on Tuesday night. While the Purples looked to be the clear favorite on paper, the Mustangs have been known to keep games close when facing Bowling Green.
Things seemed to be going well for the Purples in the first quarter, as the kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard for a good portion of the period, and lead 12-1 late in the quarter. But Muhlenberg County would rattle off four from beyond the arc before the quarter would end, and Bowling Green’s lead would be trimmed down, 14-13 after the first. Bowling Green would keep the Mustangs at arm’s length in the second, and took a lead into the break 26-21. Bowling Green would score the first point of the third quarter, but Muhlenberg County would go on a nine point run to take the lead. Bowling Green would get it back, but a buzzer beating three would put the Mustangs back on top heading into the fourth. But the Purples would storm back, as Tucker Sine would get his lone field goal of the night, a three that gave the Purples the lead for good. Bowling Green would make free throws down the stretch, and hold on for the win 56-48. Deangelo Wilson led the way with 11, while Malik Carothers, Terry Taylor, and Perry Ayers each had 10.
